Changing Tank Water

How often should I change my fish tank water?

You should change 10-15% of the tank water once a week. Then once a month you should change 30% of the water. Be sure to use dechlorinated water and in the case of tropical fish, try and ensure the newly added water is at a similar temperature to the existing tank water. You should add a chlorine neutraliser to the new water before adding to the tank if you are on a town water supply. You can also add an ammonia neutraliser to your tank if required.

At the same time as you change the water, or at least every second time, you should test your water levels for ammonia, nitrate, nitrite, hardness, chlorine and pH levels. We have a range of different water test kits to help with this.
