Queensland Itch

What products and process can I use to help my horse with Queensland Itch? How often do I need to treat it?

I suggest washing them with a medicated shampoo like Malaseb to help remove the scabs caused by the itch. You may need to use something to help heal the wounds like Septicide or Heritage Downs Intensive Coat Oil which will also help heal the scabs and wounds as well as repelling the biting insects. After washing them you need to treat them with an insecticide like Flygon GOLD Insecticidal & Repellent Spray for Horses or Permoxin to repel the biting midges. This process needs to be undertaken at least a couple of times a week, if not more often.

Also stopping the midges from being able to make contact with the skin by using a good quality rug with neck rug and hood will help.

Treating Queensland Itch can be a lengthy process so improvement make take some time and the condition may also flare up again even once it seems to be under control.
