Breed Breakdown – Staffordshire Bull Terrier (Staffy)

APPEARANCE: A medium sized dog with a very strong and muscular build. A broad wedge shaped head, dark round eyes, wide mouth and small ears. They have a short coat that comes in a range of colours including red, fawn, white, black or blue and any shade of brindle.

TEMPERAMENT: Very energetic, bold, boisterous, intelligent, loyal, affectionate and courageous. They are eager to please making them easy to train.

AVERAGE LIFE SPAN: 12-14 years

MAINTENANCE: They are very energetic and require a lot of exercise and play. They shed a medium amount of hair and are best to be brushed every 1 or 2 weeks.

SUITS: They are suited to families with older children (over eight) or with owners that are able to play and interact with them. They are generally ok with other pets but best to socialise them from a young age.

INTERESTING FACT: They were originally bred in the 1600’s for bear and bull baiting dogs by crossing a fighting bulldog and a terrier.
