Are there any tick preventatives that I can use on my dog that loves to swim?
Your best option is to use a product that works systemically (gets into the blood stream) which will not be effected by getting wet, swimming or bathing. Two options that may be suitable are NexGard for Dogs or Bravecto for Dogs.
Spot-on tick products such as Frontline Plus and Advantix are also water resistant if used as per the manufacturers recommendations. Importantly do not apply these types of products to your dog if they have been bathed with shampoo in the previous 24 hours and ideally refrain from bathing or allowing your dog to swim in the 24-48 hours immediately following application.
